As someone who has struggled with morning grogginess and sluggishness, I understand how important it is to have a solid morning routine that sets the tone for the rest of the day. In this post, I’ll be sharing with you my tried and tested morning routine that has helped me to be more productive, energized, and focused throughout the day.
Wake Up Early
First and foremost, it’s essential to wake up early. Waking up early has numerous benefits, including giving you more time to complete tasks, reducing stress levels, and improving overall productivity.Â
I typically wake up at 5 am, but you can adjust this to suit your schedule.Â
(If you want to learn how I started waking up at 5 am, you can read more about that here.)
It’s crucial to ensure that you’re getting enough sleep and waking up feeling well-rested. Aim to get at least seven hours of sleep per night, and avoid using your phone or other electronic devices for at least an hour before bedtime.
Positive Mindset
Once you’re up, it’s time to start the day with a positive mindset.
I like to start my day by practicing gratitude and saying positive affirmations to myself. This involves taking a moment to think about all the things I’m grateful for in my life, such as my health, family, friends, and job.Â
Practicing gratitude and positive affirmations helps to cultivate a positive mindset and sets the tone for a more joyful day ahead.

Get Moving
Next, it’s time to get moving. Exercise is a fantastic way to wake up your body and mind and get your blood flowing.Â
You don’t have to do an intense workout, but even a quick 10-15 minute stretch or walk around the block can be beneficial. I typically do some light yoga stretches, followed by a quick walk or jog around my neighborhood.Â
If you’re short on time, try doing some jumping jacks, air squats, or push-ups to get your heart rate up.
Have a healthy breakfast
After exercising, it’s time to fuel your body with a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is often referred to as the most important meal of the day, and for good reason.Â
Eating a nutritious breakfast helps to kickstart your metabolism, provides you with energy for the day ahead, and can even improve your mood.Â
My go-to breakfast is a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit and nuts, but you can choose whatever healthy options you prefer.
Get Ready For the Day
Once you’ve had breakfast, it’s time to get ready for the day ahead.Â
This includes taking a shower, brushing your teeth, and getting dressed. Even if you’re working from home, it’s essential to get dressed and ready for the day to help get you into the right mindset for work.Â
Allow Time for Self-Care
After getting ready, it’s time to take some time for self-care. Self-care is an essential part of any morning routine and can help to reduce stress and improve overall well-being.Â
This can include activities such as meditation, journaling, or reading a book.Â
I like to spend 15-20 minutes mindfulness meditation to help calm my mind and set my intentions for the day ahead.
Alternatively, you could spend some time journaling, writing down your goals and aspirations for the day or reading a book that inspires you.
Review Your To-Do List
At this point, you should have planned your day prior, such as the night before or during your Sunday habit routine (you may read more about that here).Â
If not, Take a few minutes to plan your day. When you have a plan in place, you’re more likely to accomplish your goals and feel less overwhelmed throughout the day.
Now, take some time to review your to-do list for the day and prioritize your tasks. This helps to ensure that you’re working on the most important tasks first and can reduce stress levels later in the day.
Tackle To-Do List
Finally, it’s time to get to work! By this point, you should be feeling energized, focused, and ready to tackle your to-do list for the day.
It’s essential to prioritize your most important tasks and tackle them first, as this will help you to feel a sense of accomplishment and momentum as you move through your day.Â
Take breaks throughout the day to stretch your legs, get some fresh air, and recharge your batteries
Conclusion
As we come to the end of this post, I hope that you’ve found some helpful tips to start your day off on the right foot.Â
Remember, establishing a consistent morning routine can have a profound impact on your physical and mental health, and ultimately, your overall productivity and happiness.
