Sometimes it’s hard to get away from the hustle and bustle of the work week, even though the vast majority of us are working from home these days. Although, we spend less time commuting to work, our days seems to become even more endless than before – with back-to- back zoom meetings, planning, prepping, and a never ending to do list (or is this just me?). Going to the spa is probably the last thing on your mind, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. You can actually relieve some of the stress by creating a spa day in the comfort of your own home.
We all get tired from over working, over stressing, and being well… overwhelmed. Burnout is a thing and if we keep at it, at the rate we’re going, it’s bound to happen sooner or later. But this doesn’t have to be you. Take your needed “me time.” I will tell you how you can kick your feet up, relax, and pamper yourself without ever leaving your front door. In this post, I will share with you how you can create your very own spa day and pamper yourself at home because why not… you know you definitely deserve it.
Let’s dive in, shall we…
Prepare and set the mood
Before you can start to relax and have a spa day in the comfort of your own home, you have to set the mood. Make sure you are free of distractions. So, set your phone to airplane mode, turn the tv off, and play some relaxing music. If you can’t think of a relaxing music to play, I know Spotify or Pandora has a great list of spa music. Just look up “Spa Music” and you can pick the one that is to your liking.
You can even add some essential oils to a diffuser to get your home smelling like a spa, too. My favorite mixture of essential oils are eucalyptus and lavender for a relaxing and calming smell. Having your home smelling like a spa will help enhance the spa-like experience.
Then have supplies ready for your spa day. This means you would have to round them up and gather them into one location, so you are ready for each area of your spa session. Here are some suggestions:
- bath bubble
- Epson salt infused with lavender
- scented Candles
- Extractor (Breylee Tea Tree Oil Blackhead Removing Kit)
- Rose quartz vibrating facial massager
- Cuticle oil (Cuccio Naturale Luxury Spa)
Once the ambiance is right and you have your supplies ready, you can throw on a comfy robe, house slippers, and get ready to release your stresses and relax.
Take a relaxing bubble bath
The first thing I like to do is take a relaxing bubble bath. This will further help me get my mindset right and helps me relieve the stresses I have been carrying around with me.
So, draw yourself a nice warm and relaxing bath. Add a bath balm with two cups of lavender infused Epson salt.
Then, light a few candles for a more relaxing ambiance. This will help you calm your mind and ease your soul.
Did you know that lavender has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties that can help lower anxiety, reduce stress, and improves the quality of your sleep? Along with Epson salt, it is known to relieve aches and pain.
While you’re relaxing in your spa tub, you can close your eyes and enjoy the moment or maybe even read a book while you sip a calming tea, or even wine.
Remember, this is YOUR makeshift spa and however you decide to relax, that is up to you.
Before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to a more peaceful you in no time.
Give yourself a facial.
If you have gotten a facial before, you know that the esthetician starts off by cleansing your skin to remove any traces of dirt, oil, and makeup.
Then the esthetician may exfoliate your skin to rid of any dead skin cells.
Afterwards, a steamer is placed on your face to open your pores and start to extract blackheads from those opened pores.
Next, a facial massage in given and lastly, the esthetician finishes off with a facial mask.
Cleanse and Exfoliate:
So, to simulate a spa like facial at home you will need to cleanse your face and make sure you take off all traces of makeup from your face. Then, use a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin cells.
Facial Steamer:
Now onto steaming your face. Don’t worry, I know most of us do not own a facial steamer. All you need is a large bowl with warm/hot water. Place your face right above the bowl to allow the steam to hit your face.
However, if you are looking for one, the NanoSteamer Large 3-in-1 Nano Ionic Facial Steamer is a great one. It is easy to use and provides you with 30 minutes of steam time. The NanoSteamer uses advanced nano ionic technology that emits steam with negatively charged ions that penetrate deeply into your skin. This helps to open up pores and remove impurities, making it easier for you to cleanse your skin.
Extract:
Who says that you need an expensive pore extractor to eliminate pores. A pore stripper can do just that.
Once your pores are nicely open apply a blackhead removing mask using the Breylee Tea Tree Oil Blackhead Removing Kit. This has worked the best so far in removing my blackheads. I have a blackhead removing vacuum and it doesn’t work as well as this kit. Also, the vacuum has bruised by skin before and left me with a burgundy mark from the suction. So, if you do not want that to happen to you, I highly recommend the Breylee Tea Tree Oil Blackhead Removing Kit.
Facial Massage:
Then to close your pores and massage your face, use a rose quartz vibrating facial massager like the one I have. I absolutely adore it and have written about it in other posts. Just pop the interchangeable heads in the refrigerator 30 minutes before use and start the rolling. The facial roller will do the massaging for you. The coolness of the heads will help close your pores and will give you and instant “ahhh” feeling.
Lastly, apply your favorite sheet mask, such as Que Bella Hydrating Mask or Miss Spa Boost + Glow hydrogel Facial Mask. Anyone of your choosing will work. Just keep in mind to choose one that will best meet your skin’s needs. I tend to have skin on the dryer side, so I like my mask to hydrate my skin that will add moisture back in for a glowing healthy-looking skin. Top it off with two refrigerated cucumber slices on your eyes for a special classic spa experience treatment.
Pamper yourself with a mani and pedi.
At-Home Manicure
First, remove all nail polish residue. Then, soak your nails in warm water and lemon slices. Next, trim and file your nails to your liking.
Remove any dead skin and unwanted cuticles with a nail clipper. Then, add cuticle oil to your nails. My favorite is Cuccio Naturale Luxury Spa a cuticle revitalizing oil. The hydrating and nourishing properties of the oil help to improve the health of your nails, making them stronger and less prone to breakage. The oil also helps to prevent dryness and cracking of the cuticles, which can lead to painful hangnails.
Cuccio Naturale Luxury Spa is made with natural ingredients that are safe for your skin and nails. The formula includes nourishing oils such as jojoba, sunflower, and safflower oil, as well as antioxidant-rich vitamins A and E, and hydrating honey extract. These ingredients work together to provide your cuticles with the nutrients they need to stay healthy.
It comes in a round sleek bottle and smells absolutely delightful as well. Afterwards, paint your nail with primer and a nail color of your liking and add a topcoat for extra strength and support.
At-Home Pedicure
Again, make sure your toenails are free of nail polish. Soak your feet in a basin or in your tub. You can add the same bath salt you used for your bubble bath, it’s up to you. Use a foot scrub, such as a hummus stone to remove dead skin and smooth out your heel.
Dry your feet after your soak. Trim and file your nails to your desired length. Then use a paper towel or a toe separator and start painting your toenails.
If you are into gel nails and would like to try it at home.
Give yourself a massage
A spa day wouldn’t be complete without a full body massage. If you have a partner/spouse like mine, then you know they hate giving massages. So, they are not going to be any use here. Let me tell you that you do not have to wait for someone else to give you a massage. You can actually do this yourself with a tennis ball and a foam roller.
Here’s the trick.
To give yourself a massage with a tennis ball, lay on the floor with the tennis ball against your back while your chest is facing upwards.
Move your body side to side or in an up and down position to allow the ball to massage your back. Just remember do not place the ball on your spine or any areas that feel pain. You are here to relax and not cause any discomfort or pain.
To massage yourself with a foam roller, just place the foam roller horizontally on the floor and roll-on top of it with your chest facing upwards. Just be careful not to apply too much pressure. Again, if you are feeling discomfort or pain, stop.
For your arms, hands and feet, just apply a massage oil and start rubbing in circular motion and one fingertip and toes at a time.
Or you can use a portable massage like the RENPHO R3 Power Upgrade Massage Gun (my new best friend). I literally use this every day. I’ve replaced the tennis ball technique with the portable massage and never looked back.
