Staying up a little too late when we know we have to wake up bright and early in the morning. We press snooze a few too many times. Now, we’re up and out of bed and frantic realizing how late we’re running behind. Yeah, you can always cake on tons and tons of makeup and concealer to hide the fact you are exhausted out of your mind, but then you’ll fall more behind. You then ask yourself “is there an easier and faster way to look more awake in the mornings when you are dead tired?” The answer is yes. Yes, there is!
Well, this happens to me more often than I want to admit. I have a problem with staying up late and love the comfort and warmth of my bed in the morning. I just don’t want to get up out of bed at times but adulting calls.
So, without further aduei here are my secrets on how I look more awake, when I’m extremely exhausted inside, while running behind schedule.
How To Look More Awake In the Morning
1. Drink a glass or two of water first thing in the morning.
As soon as you wake up, drink a nice tall glass or two of water. Not only does water rehydrate your
body, it helps your skin glow, boost your metabolism, and has so many other health benefits, but it also promotes alertness and helps increase energy levels. Water helps fuels your brain by aiding in brain function, so you are more productive throughout the day. According to BusinessInsider.com, dehydration is one of the main factors in feeling fatigued and lethargic.
I like to drink a cold glass of water right when I wake up. I feel that it wakes me up from the inside out and gets me moving. If you haven’t yet, add this into your daily habits and you too will see a dramatic difference in the way you feel in the morning, even if you’re not running late (like I usually am).
2. Wash your face with cool water.
Since time is of the essence, taking a shower is out of the question. So, washing your face is a must. Do this with cold water and you will wake yourself right up. Additionally, our face tends to get puffy when we first wake up due to the regeneration of cells in our body. Washing your face with cold water helps tighten your pours by promoting blood circulation and in turn de-puffs your face.
3. Wear an under eye mask when getting ready.
While you are scurrying to get dressed and ready, why not throw on an under eye mask to help minimize dark circles and decrease puffiness under your eyes.
My go-to under eye masks are the Morning Warrior Gold Eye Mask by Clay & Stones. It uses a blend of collagen, vitamins B3, A, E and papaya enzymes to treat dark circles and reduce inflammation. I throw these bad boys in the refrigerator, so they get nice and cold. I place them under my eyes so they can do their job while I get ready.
4. Wear a tinted eye cream.
To enhance the more awake look, try adding on a brightening tinted eye cream to cover up those tired eyes. I’m absolutely obsessed with the Honest Beauty Bright Eyes Tinted Eye Cream. They are color correcting and provides sheer coverage that you can use even without makeup. Just apply towards the inside of your eyes and use your ring finger to lightly rub it in towards your temple. It has as illuminating affect that bounces light off to give you a more well-rested appearance.
After the under-eye mask, I would rub in the access and dab on tinted eye cream after I lather on a facial moisturizer of course. Then, I apply the Honest Beauty Bright Eyes Tinted Eye Cream. It glides on so smoothly and blends in with my skin perfectly. It hydrates my skin and stays on all day. I actually prefer this over a concealer, since concealers tend to crease into my skin which makes it look like I have more wrinkles than I actually do and that’s an absolute no, no.
5. Curl your lashes to achieve that extra awake look.
This will help make your eyes appear bigger and give you the wide eye look so you can look and feel more awake. Be sure that that your lashes are clean with no traces makeup before curling your lashes. The last thing you want to do is pull your lashes out. Also, make sure that your lash curler is clean as well. To add in a little bit of drama, you can throw on some mascara as well.
6. Bring on the blush.
Another telltale sign of being tired is having dull skin. Adding blush to your cheek will make you look more awake and adds color to your face. Just lightly brush it on the apples of your cheek to bring your complexion to life.
